MLAs Raise River and Lake Pollution Issue in Assembly

Описание: Several MLAs including Carlos Ferreira, Cruz Silva, Altone D’Costa, Viresh Borkar, Venzy Viegas and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao raised concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly over pollution in rivers and lakes across Goa.

The members sought details on water quality sampling conducted by the Water Resources Department over the last five years, sources of pollution such as sewage discharge, industrial effluents, mining contamination and agricultural runoff, as well as measures taken to address the issue. They also asked about action against illegal borewells and steps taken to safeguard the Mhadei River.

Responding to the issue, Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar said there should be a movement to stop the discharge of sewage by local bodies and individuals into water bodies.
