This is a now a classic Folk song although it started life as a Musical Hall Song*, albeit about convicted criminals. Captain Cook is a name to conjure with having landed there in 1770 and being amazed by seeing so many Sting Rays.I recently heard a version of this by Frank Ifield and it triggered a forgotten memory so I couldn't resist digging his version out.Not sure I've sung the ''toora la lays' correctly but we all have to put our own slant on things.

Thanks To Raymond Crooke for highlighting my original error in calling it a folk Song from the eithteenth century. The Music Hall era was a century later.
