HK police chief: both hard and soft approaches

Описание: (7 Dec 2019) Hong Kong's Police Commissioner Chris Tang told reporters on Saturday in Beijing that Hong Kong Police would adopt "both hard and soft approaches" when dealing with ongoing anti-government protests.
This is Tang's first official visit in Beijing to meet with top Chinese officials since he was appointed to his role in November.
Tang said police officers would "not tolerate and take resolute measure" to deal with violence, but added they would adopt a "more humanistic and flexible approach" toward minor incidents.
Tang's visit came just before another mass protest on Sunday, part of a pro-democracy movement in the semi-autonomous city that started in June.
As one of their major demands, protesters in Hong Kong had been calling for an independent inquiry into police brutality.
Tang claimed "fake news" had misled citizens and undermined the reputation of the police force.
During his visit, Tang met with Chinese officials of the Ministry of Public Security, the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, a top body responsible for law and order, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office.
