The Battle of Britain reached a decisive moment in September 1940, with Britain's Fighter Command engaging in dramatic aerial combat against the Luftwaffe. Civilians were also heavily impacted, living in constant fear of invasion. The Luftwaffe's goal was to destroy Fighter Command and pave the way for an invasion. On September 15, 1940, 13 crucial hours unfolded where Britain's defense network, led by Air Vice-Marshal Keith Park, faced the Luftwaffe's largest air assault. By the end of the day, the RAF had achieved a stunning victory, shooting down 56 German planes while losing 29 of their own. This marked a turning point in the war, leading to Hitler's postponement of the planned invasion of Britain.
