In this Getting To Grips session, we break down how to create an outdoor, sun-lit look entirely indoors using controlled hard light and intentional shadow placement.
This shoot focuses on simulating natural sunlight in studio by shaping hard light, controlling spill, and introducing organic shadow patterns that feel real — not staged. We explore how light direction, distance, and height affect contrast, texture, and mood, while keeping skin tones clean and flattering.
Using Godox AD300Pro units, we demonstrate how to build a punchy, daylight-style key light, control falloff, and create believable environmental shadows that sell the illusion of shooting outdoors. The session is shot clean on a neutral studio wall, making it ideal for post-production background swaps or compositing.
This episode is designed for photographers who want to:
Create outdoor-style portraits in a controlled studio environment
Understand hard light without harsh results
Shape shadows intentionally for impact
Shoot clean files ready for post-production
Build repeatable lighting setups with portable strobes
No gimmicks. No presets. Just understanding light.
