Описание: Fared Shafinury is a contemporary Iranian American artist, setâr virtuoso, activist, and educator.

As a disciple of many prominent setâr masters, Shafinury has dedicated his life to both its preservation and evolution. His discography and live concert appearances chart a path of experimentation with a deep respect and understanding of tradition.

Since the onset of the COVID pandemic, Shafinury has lived a relatively secluded life in a sleepy beach town along the Gulf of Mexico, creating a thriving online school and community, known as the Radif Retreat Institute. He now teaches a wide array of students from across the Iranian global diaspora and beyond with a bilingual and multicultural approach.

Shafinury is currently recording his third LP album, Microtone (Riz-Pardeh).

His performance of new compositions for Persia After Hours explored themes of love and inclusion through the words of the thirteen-century Persian poet Rumi.

Persia After Hours was a special performance series at the Getty Villa in Los Angeles that highlighted musicians, poets, DJs, visual artists, and dancers inspired by Iran’s rich culture and history. The series – which took place over three Summer nights in 2022 – seamlessly blended the past with the present for a unique immersion into the Iranian arts. A highlight of each evening was a featured performance in the Villa’s iconic outdoor theater.

This series complemented the exhibition "Persia: Ancient Iran and the Classical World"(April 6 through August 8, 2022), https://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions..., and was presented by the J. Paul Getty Museum in collaboration with Farhang Foundation and UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music.
