For this Hillsborough County Hiking Spree hike, I visit Lake Frances, and the neighboring Lake Dan Nature Preserve. This is a very special place. What would seem like just a walk through cow pastures, is actually teaming with wildlife. It's the only place I always see American Kestrels. There are lots of deer, sandhill cranes, and meadowlarks to be found. I've even come across gopher tortoise. The bird watching can be very good here as well. From great egrets, to great blue heron, little blue heron, american coot, kingfisher, cattle egret, red bellied woodpecker, crows, wood stork, eastern bluebird, vultures, red shoulder hawks, and sometimes whistler ducks. I've seen alligator here before but not on this trip.
Hiking through the livestock and along horse pins makes this unique for me.
