Jenny Grant @SilenceInPolish joins us to talk about @SilenceInPolish General Stanislaw Maczek: the Commander of the 1st Polish Armoured Division in North-West Europe 1944-45. Maczek's measured leadership on the Mace at Montormel was instrumental in the closing the Falaise pocket in August 1944, resulting in the destruction of a good number of German Wehrmacht and SS divisions.

Maczek had a fascinating career prior to 1944, being a veteran of World War I, the Polish-Ukrainian and Polish–Soviet Wars. He was also the commander of Poland's only major armoured formation during the September 1939 campaign.
