Transcript:
CLINICIAN: Joe, what have you been told about your kidney problem?
PATIENT: Well, others have told me there's something wrong, but to tell you the truth, doc, I pee just fine.
CLINICIAN: Joe, is it okay if I share some more information about your kidney problem with you?
PATIENT: Sure.
CLINICIAN: To begin, the kidneys do some --
[pause]
-- I'm not always clear in the way I explain things. I was wondering, if you don't mind, telling me, in your own words, what we've been talking about.
PATIENT: Sure. You told me I have
kidney disease, and that it's getting worse, and I just didn't realize it. To tell you the truth, doc I'm not too happy about it. You said that it's probably due to the diabetes and the high blood pressure. And then we talked about adjusting my blood pressure medication to help with the protein I'm peeing out, right?
CLINICIAN: Right.
PATIENT: Yeah. You said you wanted me to see a dietician, to cut out the salty foods, and keep the sugar in line, and that you would probably need to see me more often. Is that about it?
CLINICIAN: Perfect.
