GWM's global boss of right-hand drive markets has confirmed the flagship Tank 700 is destined for Australia, with the premium off-roader targeting established heavyweights like the Toyota LandCruiser, Nissan Patrol and GMC Yukon in the lucrative large SUV segment.

And so the towing wars are about to heat up with the Tank 700 potentially offering an industry-leading 4500kg capacity, well beyond the circa-3500kg ratings of current segment leaders. This capability will be powered by a range of hybrid powertrain options including a mind-melting 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 PHEV specifically engineered for Australian towing demands.

Off-road credentials are equally impressive with triple locking differentials, air suspension and a nine-speed automatic with low-range, while luxury touches include power-extending side steps, massaging leather seats and concert-grade 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio.
