The longest north - south route in the United States, Route 1 connects coastal towns from Key West, Florida to its terminus in northern Maine stretching 2,369 miles connecting nearly every major city from Boston to Miami on the Atlantic Ocean. This portion connects the beachside villages of Ogunquit and Wells, Maine to Saco, Maine just south of Portland, Maine. Interstate 95 sits just west but nearly all of Maine's tourist destinations on the coast are connected by this primary route. One of my personal favorite travel destinations southern Maine is a haven for art communities, famous maine lobster, and beach bums.
