This is a massive timeline covering the transition from the Tsarist Imperial Army to the Red Army and finally the modern Russian Federation. We start right at the beginning of the century with the Russo-Japanese War in 1904. You can see the classic imperial green uniforms and the Mosin-Nagant rifles which would remain a staple for decades.

From there we move into the chaos of World War 1 and the pivotal Russian Civil War in 1917. This is where you see the iconic "Budenovka" cap with the red star, a symbol of the newly formed Red Army. The timeline then shifts to the brutal realities of the 1940s. We see the heavy winter gear necessitated by the Winter War and the gritty urban combat look of Stalingrad in 1942 with the legendary PPSh-41 submachine gun. The evolution pushes through to the Cold War where the AK platform becomes standard issue during the Hungarian Uprising.

The late 20th century shows a fascinating shift in gear during the Soviet-Afghan War in 1984. This is where the old tunic style is finally abandoned for the "Afghanka" field uniform and chest rigs to adapt to mountain warfare. The 1990s and early 2000s segments covering the Chechen Wars and the Russo-Georgian war show a mix of old Soviet stock and early federation camo patterns. Music Choice: The song used is "The Red Army is the Strongest" (also known as White Army, Black Baron). I spent a while thinking about this one. I could have gone with "Katyusha", but that felt too specifically tied to the WW2 period and is a bit overused. I also considered the "Sacred War", but it is incredibly grim and slow. I settled on "The Red Army is the Strongest" because it has that driving, powerful rhythm that matches the rapid industrialization and militarization of the Soviet period which takes up the bulk of this video.

How this was made: I use AI to help visualize military history concepts, while trying to remain as accurate as possible. Images were made with Google Nano Banana Pro after an in depth researched prompt on my side first. I then animate them with Kling 2.5 using Start/end frames for great visual results and good authenticity. I tried to get all the weapon/uniform details (like the transition from Mosin to PPSh to AK) as accurately portrayed as possible but there are always some creative liberties wherever things are less clear cut or where the AI struggles with specific camo patterns like the EMR.
