ALDABRA,

auch genannt „das Juwel in der Krone der Seychellen“ oder „Galapagos des Indischen Ozeans", ist das weltweit jüngste Korallenatoll und ein UNESCO-Welterbe. Gleichzeitig ist es das wohl schönste überlebende tropische Atollökosystem der Erde - eine Inselwildnis, mit faszinierenden Sehenswürdigkeiten und fesselnden Naturschätzen, die zu besuchen jedes Jahr nur wenigen privilegierten Besuchern gestattet ist.

Im Rahmen unserer einzigartigen 14-tägigen Tauchexpedition an Bord der MV Maya’s Dugong waren wir Zeuge eines überwältigenden Naturspektakels.

Wir erlebten atemberaubendes Tauchen, wie z.B. das absolut bemerkenswerte Strömungstauchen in den Kanälen, die die Lagune im ewigen Takt der Gezeiten füllen und leeren. An den Eingängen zur Lagune standen große Fischschwärme, Haie und andere Raubfische patrouillieren zwischen offener See und der Lagune. Sogar die äußert seltenen Dugongs wurden in den letzten Jahren gesichtet, ein Zeichen dafür, dass diese seltenen Säugetiere eines Tages auf die Seychellen zurückkehren könnten, um sich fortzupflanzen.

Zwar hat der Mensch auch hier seine Spuren hinterlassen und es wurde zu viel gefischt, aber Aldabra ist und bleibt ein Unikat im Indischen Ozean. Weit weg von jeglicher Zivilisation, geschützt und einfach nur atemberaubend.

Aldabra, also called "the jewel in the crown of the Seychelles" or "Galapagos of the Indian Ocean", is the world's youngest coral atoll and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the same time, it is arguably the most beautiful surviving tropical atoll ecosystem on earth - an island wilderness, with fascinating sights and captivating natural treasures, that only a privileged few are allowed to visit each year.

During our unique 14-day diving expedition aboard MV Maya's Dugong, we witnessed an overwhelming natural spectacle.

We experienced breathtaking diving, such as the absolutely remarkable drift diving in the channels that fill and empty the lagoon in the eternal rhythm of the tides. At the entrances to the lagoon were large schools of fish, sharks and other predatory fish patrolling between the open sea and the lagoon. Even the extremely rare dugongs have been sighted in recent years, a sign that these rare mammals may one day return to the Seychelles to breed.

Although man has left his mark here too and there has been too much fishing, Aldabra remains a unique spot in the Indian Ocean. Far away from any civilization, protected and simply breathtaking.
