Описание:
To understand forces that cause paper airplanes to fly and determine which type of paper airplane flies the farthest.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
8X11 Paper
8X11 Wrapping Paper and/or Parchment Paper (optional)
8X11 Newspaper (optional)
8X11 Construction Paper
Masking Tape
Paper & Pencil for notes
Step 1: There are 4 forces at work to make an airplane fly:
weight, lift, thrust, and drag
Weight pulls the airplane down.
Lift pulls the airplane up.
Thrust moves the airplane forward.
Drag pulls the airplane back.
This applies to all types of planes - big and small.
Step 2: Now it’s your turn to make an airplane. Here’s what you should consider…
What makes paper airplanes fly?
Does changing the way a paper airplane is folded, have an affect on the distance it flies?
Step 3: Use masking tape to mark the starting point on the floor. Throw each plane 2x. See how far each plane flies and record. Which one went the farthest?
Fun facts on planes:
American aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright (The Wright Brothers), have created the first airplane. This was on December 17th, 1903.
Engines provide the thrust needed to move a plane forward, and allows the wings to create lift.
Aircraft wings feature a shape called an airfoil which creates lift as the plane moves through the air.
The long, thin body of an aircraft is called the fuselage.
Unmanned aircraft controlled remotely or by computers are known as drones.
