West Bengal OBC Row: 66 Communities Restored to Reservation List After Court Order

Описание: The West Bengal government has restored OBC status to 66 communities following the Calcutta High Court’s 2024 order on reservation policies. The move comes days after the state scrapped its earlier OBC list that had been struck down by the court.
According to the Backward Classes Welfare Department, the revised notification will allow these communities, many of them Muslim, to receive 7% reservation in government jobs and services. The notification also includes SC converts to Christianity and their descendants.
The development has once again triggered a political debate over reservation, minority rights and legal scrutiny in West Bengal.
