Thinking about doing the Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC)? Maybe the Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Sanctuary, or Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek? Or what about the Dhauligiri Circuit or Manaslu Trek? If so, this video will be a very helpful resource! Learn about the equipment required for trekking in Nepal!
Water purification is one of the most important items to think about when traveling in Nepal. Buying bottled water contributes significantly to local pollution (plastic bottles are often burned or buried near the villages where they are purchased), and also can be expensive. That bottled water had to be carried on the backs of porters to reach most of the lodges after all, and that means a bottle of water could cost as much as 4 USD at higher altitudes. I recommend bringing a water filter, such as a BeFree filter that filters down to at least 0.2 microns, and also using a light pen such as a steripen to purify your water. First filter the water to get rid of bacteria and particulate, then use the light pen to kill viruses such as rota virus and hepatitis. Do you need both a filter and light pen? Definitely. Will using a chemical like chlorine, bleach, or iodine work to rid the water of all pathogens? Nope.
Other items covered in this video include backpacks, duffel bags, clothing, medications, sunscreen, sleeping bags, and solar panels. Check it out! Hopefully this video will help make your trek in Nepal much more comfortable and healthy!
