Описание: In this first of four lectures in October, CWI Biomedical specialist Marcella Piper-Terry, MS reviews the current epidemiology of autism and reasons for the increased prevalence. An orientation of positive engagement, and the concept of biomedical interventions and TREATMENT is reviewed. This is contrary to normal, established medical practice where an autistic child is considered "damaged goods" and "behavioral interventions," "applied behavioral analysis," and other similar interventions are tried. While they may be partially helpful, NOTHING is as helpful as an aggressive biomedical approach where the orientation is "let's find what the biological problems are and fix them." This lecture is an excellent grounding for this entire series.
