If the central government had rejected or kept this proposal pending, the Left Front (LDF) and the Congress-led coalition (UDF) would have made it a major election issue. They would have sent the message to the public that the central government does not respect Kerala's language and culture. By immediately approving it, the central government has snatched this major election issue from the opposition.
