The Baptism of Christ
The First Sunday after Epiphany


The Call to Worship – Psalm 29, NKJV

L: Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones, Give unto the LORD glory and strength.

P: Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

L: The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters.

P: The voice of the LORD is powerful; The voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

L: The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars, Yes, the LORD splinters the cedars of Lebanon.

P: He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.

L: The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire.

P: The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; The LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.

L: The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth, And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”

P: The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood, And the LORD sits as King forever.

All: The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.


The Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father, we have again failed You. We have

sinned against You. We have not served one another, or

loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not even

recognized our neighbors when we encounter some of Your

children. Forgive us, Father. Help us to walk by Your

Holy Spirit, not by our flesh. Help us not only to recognize

our neighbors in Your children, but to love them as You

love us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.


The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made;

Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried, and the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
