This video provides an overview of the Western Arthur Traverse a ~70km multi-day walk.
To traverse the rugged Western Arthur Range is considered a major bushwalking challenge. Located in Southwest National Park, the Western Arthur Range Traverse covers extensive, rugged terrain and gullies. The landscape is made up of steep slopes, alpine moorlands and glacial lakes. The route takes walkers through alpine scrub vegetation and patches of rainforest occur on the lower slopes.
The Western Arthur Range Traverse can be experienced from Alpha Moraine to Kappa Moraine and takes between 5 to 7 days. This is the direction from which I walked the traverse. Although the traverse can walked bi-directional, most walkers start from Huon Campground and via Junction Creek campground. Alternatively the traverse can be accessed from the Cracroft /Huon River entrance, which is the access point for the Eastern Arthurs.
The traverse can be extended with the Eastern part of the range, which adds 5-6 days to the walk.
