Cambodia and Japan on July 19, 2024 signed two cooperation financing agreements worth about $ 57.5 million for the Human Resource Development Scholarship Project and National Road No. 5 Quality Improvement.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on July 19, 2024, Mr. Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, met with Mr. Sanui Kazumasa, Director General of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). JICA) Cambodia has signed two co-financing agreements totaling 8,679 million Japanese Yen (approximately US $ 57.5 million), including one grant financing agreement and one concession loan agreement.
First, the grant agreement for the Human Resource Development Scholarship Project amounted to approximately US $ 2.5 million.
The project aims to support human resource development by providing more opportunities for civil servants, especially to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries through communication, academic and social activities and experiences in Japan.
As for the concessional loan agreement for the project to improve National Road No. 5 (Thla Mam - Battambang and Serey Sophorn - Poipet), the third phase of the loan is about 55 million US dollars.
National Road No. 5 has a total length of 146 km, from Thla Mam village, Pursat province to Battambang city, 99.21 km long, 4 lanes, 11.69 km road between Pursat city and Serei Sophorn to city. Poipet has a length of 35.14 kilometers.
Please be informed that the project to improve National Road No. 5 from Prek Kdam Bridge - Poipet City within the framework of the Japanese concession credit with a total length of 366 km to be built as 4 lanes with a width of 23 meters with 15 / thick A / C pavement Km and has a central park.
