Описание: Oil supertankers drive the engine of the global economy. These mammoth ships deliver crude oil from one part of the world to the next and are essential to the survival of many economies around the globe. In this video, we will talk about the life on one of these largest supertankers around the world, so stay tuned.

But before we continue and talk more about these oil tankers, I would request you to subscribe to our channel. Subscription helps our channel grow and supports our content. I will be extremely grateful for every token of support you send my way, so thank you in advance!
Alright, so first off, are these oil tankers like a regular ship which just transports oil? No, these oil supertankers are completely different. These ships are collectively referred to as Ultra Large Crude Carriers or ULCC. Throughout the maritime sector, there are four big ULCC which are widely known.

Let’s talk more about the structure of these supertankers. These oil supertankers are colossal in size. The tanker part itself is divided into two main types. Crude oil carriers are normally tasked with transporting oil to oil-refining countries from where it is extracted. Oil is then refined into different other petroleum based products when it reaches the refineries of those countries. The crude oil carriers can typically carry almost 350,000 tons of crude oil during a single haul.

It bears repeating that while many developing and developed economies around the world rely excessively on oil for meeting their energy needs, transporting it is extremely dangerous! The hazardous nature of the job means that only highly trained, certified and professional individuals can serve as crew members on these supertankers.

These super-tankers are designed with a long haul, which is relatively flat. These super-tankers consist of 8 to 12 tanks and usually have a two-tiered hull. The purpose of having a double-storied hull is to protect the cargo and in case, there is a collision or the tanker is in danger of sinking, oil spills can be prevented as much as possible. All of these safety procedures usually start when the loading of oil cargo starts on these tankers. This involves a preliminary exchange of information between the unloading terminal staff and the captain of the tanker.

The pumping of oil into the tankers can be a time-taking process which may take anywhere between 1 to 10 hours.
Oil tankers come equipped with huge engine rooms, safety equipment which includes gas equipment to combat combustibility, washing equipment for cleaning and tanks to store oil residues. There are also auxiliary navigational systems in case there is an engine failure. To ensure that the super-tanker is operating as per routine, there are a lot of routine checks involved.

The oil-tankers can be used for both commercial and military needs. These super-tankers can be used for refueling military vessels such as navy warships, so that they can continue with their mission. This comes in handy especially for maritime operations which are spanned over huge distances where mooring on any country’s harbor is not an option.

Another technique can also be used for transfer fuel- this is referred to as a vertical transfer technique and is usually done through a helicopter. The helicopter transports munitions or fuel. However, this process is normally used for transporting something more sensitive than fuel. Especially when the task revolves around refueling an aircraft carrier which would require much more fuel than what the helicopter can transport. In this case, the refueling must be done by an oil vessel. The oil vessel must be able to plot a similar course after matching the speed with the aircraft carrier. After that an operator fires a shot line to pull the distance line. This is done to establish contact between the two ships. When the two vessels are connected, the tanker then pumps fuel into the aircraft carrier. If there is even a slight deviation in the course between the two vessels, there is a grave risk of oil spillage and collision. During this entire time, the crew members of both vessels monitor the speed and course direction of the ship.

That’s all about the life on these supertankers. I hope you enjoyed the video, smash the like button if you did. Stay tuned for more content like this. Thank you for watching this video till the end and make sure you subscribe to the channel and press the bell icon before leaving
