Pop and politics mixed in the British Prime Minister's official residence at Number 10 Downing Street in London on Tuesday when British leader Tony Blair hosted a gathering of the country's finest show business talent.
The party was meant to recognise the importance of the entertainment industry to the country's economy.
Among the main attractions was Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher.
Noel Gallagher, one of the two brothers behind Oasis, was the brightest star at Tony Blair's first show business reception at Number 10 Downing Street on Tuesday.
Oasis, thanks to its string of hits, has rapidly become one of Britain's biggest musical exports.
Blair, who was in a rock group himself while at university, compared notes with the songwriter over a glass of champagne.
Gallagher, a keen Labour Party supporter, arrived at Downing Street with his wife, Meg, and record company boss Alan McGee.
Gallagher had not been keen to attend the bash and relented only when his mother told him it would be rude not to go.
Prime Minister Blair and his wife, Cherie appeared to have settled in well to their new surroundings as they mingled with the cream of British cultural talent.
Among the guests was film maker Sir David Puttnam.
But there was no doubt who was top of the bill.
In spite of the fact that his band is known for its aggressive image, a relaxed Noel Gallagher chatted with young fans and happily signed autographs.
Former Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson started the trend for inviting celebrities around for drinks in the 1960s when The Beatles visited Number 10.
