Psychologist urges open conversations with children on school gun violence incidents

Описание: As tensions rise among CCSD parents surrounding controversial comments made by local schoolteachers relating to the shooting and killing of Charlie Kirk at a Utah university, other, more local incidents have sparked the conversation surrounding gun violence across schools.

Psychologist Dr. Tanya Crabb, Owner of Soul Works, tells News 3 about the importance of having conversations about these incidents.

“Not talking about it does not mean that it does not get talked about. One debrief, don't dismiss. Ask the kids how that was for you. What did it feel like in your body? Start with their questions, not yours. This will also give you an opportunity to kind of correct the misinformation gently.” Dr. Crabb said.

After a rumored threat of a weapon having been taken onto school grounds at Roy Martin Middle School on Sept. 26 was found to have been unsubstantiated by police, several more recent incidents surrounding gun violence have some families on high alert.
