Buried under tons of ash and pumice in 79 AD, the city became a time capsule of life in Italy during the Roman Empire. I begin the video with five tips for visiting Pompeii and then delve into the history of the tragic event that led to the creation of a memorial for the people who lived there. NOTE: This was during the 'off season' of April and it was very busy. During the summer months I was told the crowds are two to three times larger.
