For the tournament's 10th iteration taken place from 22 August and 27 September 2025, the Women's Rugby World Cup makes its way back to Britain and to England for the first time since 2010.
Perhaps, the 2025 Cup is the first one upon ushering onto the event's new era; as part of a new brand identity unveiled for both men's and women's tournaments, World Rugby, in October 2023, reverted its decision to drop the gender designation from the women's tournament, returning to the old "Women's Rugby World Cup" title beginning in 2025 but rebranding the flagship Rugby World Cup to include "Men's" in its name starting in 2027.
On 13 August 2020, World Rugby announced that the hosting rights to the next two Rugby World Cups for men (2027 and 2031) and women (2025 and 2029) would be selected during the same process. England's Rugby Football Union confirmed their intention to bid for the Women's Rugby World Cup in October 2021. It was in the following month in November that World Rugby had awarded England preferred candidate status, and were confirmed as hosts months later on 13 May 2022.
This edition of the tournament saw the World Cup's expansion to 16 teams from the usual 12-team format that is used from 1991 to 1994 and from 2006 to 2021. Games were played across eight stadiums, with the final match being held at the larger 80,000-capacity Twickenham Stadium in London.
