Built during the 1200s, this little, almost intact medieval town of Herrstein, near Idar-Oberstein, was situated in the Gem Road and was the seat of the Counts of Sponheim. This was also the hone of Countess Loretta of Frauenburg whom we covered in an earlier video on the castle of Frauenburg. This walled town still has many of the original half timbered houses and was the place where Schinderhannes, the most famous of robbers in Germany, once spent a night in the castle´s jail tower, which was eventually named after him. Take the time to visit this tiny little town and enjoy the Cafe Zentscheune along with a beautiful leiserly stroll thru time...
