On the importance of holy company, great Guru Sri Adi Shankaracharya mentioned a verse in his Bhaja Govindam:

"Satsangatve nissangatvam
nissangatve nirmohatvam,
nirmohatve nischalatattvam
nischalatattve jivanmuktih."

Meaning: Through the company of the wise Sage, there arises non-attachment; from non-attachment comes freedom from delusion; where there is freedom from delusion, there is abidance in Self-knowledge, which leads to freedom while alive.

It is in this context that we have created this video series under the title, "Spend Your Time with an Enlightened Guru".

This is episode 9 of this video series; and it contains the teachings of enlightened master Swami Vivekananda. He explains about the importance of following a proven method of yogic practice, before denying the claims of yogis and sages regarding the higher truth of existence.

Swami Vivekananda (Narendranath Datta, 1863 - 1902) was a great Monk, Yogi and Enlightened Guru who lived in Kolkata, West Bengal. He is one of the most influential spiritual leaders of India. He was the chief disciple of the 19th Century mystic saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
