Make cat scratcher boards/posts/pads from cardboards out of boxes with a box cutter or table saw. Very simple and quick to make, and my two kitties both love to scratch on these!
They jumped right onto the board after it's done and no catnip or other form of enticement ever needed. We ended up making four scratch boards from them already, with one in each room they like to hang out.
