While spiritual bypassing is very commonly used in many contexts, few people know what it is or how it may actually be harming others and your relationship with others. Spiritual bypassing is using religious platitudes and quotes to avoid dealing with the real issues that are problematic in your relationship. It is not quite the same as spiritual abuse, which is the use of religious position and moral high ground to control and manipulate another person into submission. Spiritual bypassing attempts to pass over, minimize and avoid responsibility for wrongful attitudes and actions.
