Almost immediately after Texas passed SB 8 in 2021, aka The Heartbeat Bill, the number of women who died while pregnant, during labor, or soon after childbirth skyrocketed. How is this pro-life? This is what happens when you "just leave it up to the state"? The people of Texas didn't get to vote on this, and they still have no legislation to vote on regarding abortion and reproductive freedom. They have had no say in this, and there is no sign that they will have a say in the foreseeable future.

In the United States of America, "states’ rights" are still being used to maintain systems of inequality that allow certain groups to have control over the rights and bodies of others. The "states' rights" argument prioritizes state power over our fundamental, unalienable human rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We created this project to convey this message.
