Minister of Communications, Nomvula Mokonyane, inherited the portfolio in the first cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
It's a ministry beset with problems - including the financial and other woes of the public broadcaster, the SABC.
South Africa's digital migration process has been plagued by delays.
As a country, we have been planning to move from analogue broadcasting to digital since 2008.
Mobile operations say they need the move to happen to free up radio frequency spectrum which will help them offer internet and data services at higher speeds and lower costs.
But South Africa missed the deadline in June 2015 set out by the International Telecommunication Union.
And a new deadline has been set for June next year.
