Karemlash was a small town in southern Nineveh Plains. It’s been almost 2 years now that the Islamic State has occupied it. When the young men and women of the Karamales Drama Club ran away to Erbil as ISIS was getting close, they didn’t have any time to pick up the precious things in their lives…including their traditional folklore clothes. In Nineveh culture, traditional clothes are a sense of pride. That is why for the past 2 months, we’ve hired displaced women to knit countless hours to dress up 7 men and 7 women in their traditional clothes again. They are smiling today because you’ve given them some sense of normality. With the clothes, they’ll be able to perform a special play later on this month at the Chaldean Cultural Society in Ankawa.
