Bitcoin is losing its way, and if the current mentality continues, it could sink into nothing more than just a speculative asset.

That’s the latest warning from investigative journalist Whitney Webb.

Bitcoin has changed from a tool for financial freedom to a speculative asset driven by the “number go up” mentality. Once, it was about changing the traditional financial system and offering an alternative to government-controlled money. Now, however, its original ethos of privacy, freedom, and decentralization is losing ground.

The focus is no longer on creating a truly independent currency but on getting more people to adopt Bitcoin in hopes of wealth. This mass adoption could overshadow the very principles that made Bitcoin huge. If Bitcoin continues down this path, it risks becoming just another asset for speculation, leaving behind the ideals of privacy and financial sovereignty that once defined it.
