The hunter stood over the lioness he had killed, his spear still warm with her blood. He had tracked her for three days. He had won.
But then came the cry.
Small. Helpless. Heartbreaking.
The cub stumbled from the bush, golden and trembling, searching for the mother that would never rise again. The hunter raised his spear. One more strike and the hunt would be complete. The law was clear: if you kill the mother, you kill the cub. Leave no debt. Leave no loose thread.
But his hand hesitated.
The cub looked up at him with eyes too young to understand hate. It cried again, softer now, as if begging. The hunter's chest tightened. He had children at home. He knew what it meant to need your mother.
So he did the unthinkable.
He lowered his spear. He bent down. And he lifted the cub onto his shoulders.
The forest watched in silence as the hunter walked away, carrying what he should have killed
