Strasburg Rail Road 90: Steam Strikes Back - Beginnings of an Icon (HD)

Описание: The first few decades of the Strasburg Rail Road's steam operations had created a reputation of a railfan's destination as tourists flocked to the scenic short line in droves to see and ride an operational steam locomotive. During these early years the locomotives and rolling stock adorned vibrant colors, also featuring the famous "egg logo" as we know it today. Being that it has been 60 years since the start of the steam tourist operations, the railroad hosted photo specials in October of 2020. In conjunction with Lerro Productions, Christopher Pollock, and Steve Barry these specials were made possible. The main star of these specials would be locomotive 90, given her reputation and long residence at the railroad. Other highlights of the weekend would be the addition of Canadian National 89 to Saturday's charter, and Plymouth #1 returning to action for a session. Strasburg had decked out 90 with white pinstripes, gold accents, and the infamous "egg logo", as 90 adorned that livery for a number of years since her arrival in 1967. From the slow rise of the golden sun, we follow 90 on her way up and down the line, putting on a spectacular show of steam and power as long forgotten scenes of the past are recreated. As the final segment, we transition to what normal operations are in 2020, with Norfolk & Western 475 taking charge of the hourly trains of the weekend. History of SRC 90:
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1924 and ordered for the Great Western Railroad in Colorado, 90 worked and hauled sugar beat trains during her service time. In 1967, Strasburg purchased 90 for the railroad and she has been serving Strasburg ever since her career with the Great Western ended. At Strasburg's world-class shops, a series of modifications were made to suit passenger service, like the removal of the smoke box extension and the rearranging of domes atop the boiler. To this day, 90 provides reliable service to the railroad.

History of N&W 475:
Norfolk & Western 475 is a 4-8-0 "M" class locomotive built in 1906 by the famous Baldwin Locomotive Works. After completing a faithful 50 years of service with the N&W, she was retired in 1956. The locomotive exchanged hands with many owners, and was finally purchased by the Strasburg Rail Road Company in 1991 for $100,000, and was restored to operating service in 1993. In 2018, she was set to undergo a mandatory 1,472 day inspection, and was returned to service in late 2019. She continues to serve the Strasburg Rail Road in reliable service today.
