2. SOUNDBITE (English) Barack Obama, US President:
"I also thanked the president for the very strong support that the Polish government, as well as the governments throughout Eastern Europe and Central Europe, have shown towards the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) treaty. As we embark on a debate of that treaty in the United States Senate, I indicated to him how important it was for US Senators to hear from those who are Russia's neighbours, that they feel it is very important to make sure that the New START Treaty is ratified so that we can continue the verification process that is so important in reducing risks throughout that region."
3. SOUNDBITE (Polish/followed by simultaneous English translation) Bronislaw Komorowski, Polish President:
"Poland supports and fully accepts the aspiration for the ratification of the New START, because we believe that this is the investment in a better and safer future. And this is also the investment in the real control over the current situation."

"If you live next door with somebody for 1,000 years, it is not possible to reset all the past relations using just one push of the reset button. We are not able to fully reset and delete 1,000 years of uneasy history with Russians. But we do not want to be an obstacle. We want to be a help in the process of resetting the relations between the Western world with Russia."
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Barack Obama, US President:
"I am confident that we are going to be able to get the START treaty on the floor, debate it, and complete it before we break for the holidays."

STORYLINE
Pushing a top foreign policy priority, US President Barack Obama expressed confidence on Wednesday that the Senate will ratify a US-Russian nuclear arms pact before breaking for the holidays.
Obama drew specific attention on Wednesday to Polish support for the treaty after meeting with Poland's president, Bronislaw Komorowski, in the White House Oval Office.
"I...thanked the president for the very strong support that the Polish government as well as the governments throughout Eastern Europe and Central Europe have shown towards the New START treaty," Obama said during his meeting with the Polish President.
The treaty, known as New START, has been a central piece of Obama's agenda for the year end session of Congress.
Ratification has bogged down as Republicans have sought assurances that the US arsenal would continue to be modernised.
Komorowski, seated at Obama's side, said New START ratification would be an investment in a better and safer future.
"This is also the investment in the real control over the current situation," he said.
"We are not able to fully reset and delete 1,000 years of uneasy history with Russians, but we do not want to be an obstacle," Komorowski said, speaking through a translator.
"We want to be a help in the process of resetting the relations between the Western world with Russia."
On Monday, Komorowski signed deals with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev meant to deepen their countries' economic, political and cultural ties.
Asked whether the treaty will be ratified by Congress before the end of the year, Obama said he was "confident that we are going to be able to get the START treaty on the floor, debate and completed before we break for the holidays."
