While the effectiveness and safety, as well as the social benefits and the return on investment of vaccines are well documented, barriers to immunisation exist and have a significant impact on vaccination rates and the prevalence of vaccine-preventable diseases. It is imperative to expand adult vaccination infrastructure and pathways in all countries. Community pharmacies are ideally placed for this and should be part of the solution. There are multiple reasons and plenty of evidence to support pharmacy-based vaccination, but legislative changes must be introduced in many countries for this to happen. This panel will discuss the case, requirements and advocacy approaches to achieve it.
After this webinar the participants should be able to understand:
1. Why community pharmacies should be involved in delivering vaccination services and how this can contribute to increasing vaccination rates.
2. Why developing a competent pharmacist workforce for vaccine-related roles is essential.
3. What challenges pharmacists’ organisations may encounter when advocating for the introduction of pharmacy-based vaccination – and how to overcome them.
4. How to effectively advocate for regulatory changes.
