This then makes their exegesis of the Last Supper crumble. The entire argument was built on Christ’s command to eat and drink; it would logically follow that it is precept to eat and drink. To say “Well actually it isn’t a precept to eat and drink but the real and only precept is for the clergy to offer both kinds,” is to ad hoc back peddle and commit eisegesis. If Christ is commanding the apostles to eat and drink, then how do they get the reading that: “What He actually means to say it’s not really a precept to eat AND drink but to administer both kinds”?
