Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790) was an American polymath, inventor, writer, scientist, and Founding Father of the United States. Born in Boston, Franklin rose from a printer’s apprentice to become one of the most influential figures of the American Enlightenment.
He is best known for his experiments with electricity, including the lightning rod, as well as for inventions such as bifocal glasses and the Franklin stove. Franklin also played a key role in American independence, serving as a diplomat in France where he helped secure crucial support during the Revolutionary War.
