In this video you will learn to swim Frontcrawl in 3 minutes. Hi I am Carryn and this is Palmers Swimming tips. Today I am going to demonstrate a basic stroke. called the front crawl. Every stroke starts off with a good glide The first step to swimming basic front crawl is a push and glide. This can be performed by placing you hand on the wall and placing your feet on the wall. When performing a push and glide you want to make sure your body is streamlined meaning that your head is looking down and your body is straight with your hands and feet together. Just Like this.
Once you can perform this its time to add in a kick. The front crawl kick is referred to as the flutter kick. In order to perform a flutter kick you need to keep your legs relatively straight and your feet very floppy. Legs are kicking just below the surface of the water. Like this.
Front crawl also uses an alternating arm movement. To do this you want to bring your arms out of the water one at a time as the other is pushing the water towards your legs. You want to have your arms glide across the surface of the water rather than smacking. Try to keep your elbows high. Now that we can glide, and are comfortable gliding and kicking its time to throw in some arms. It should look something like this.
Once you are able to do this confidently its time to learn how to breath. Breathing can be performed in a few ways using a rhythm. This can be Every 2 arms, 3 arms or even 4 arms. The key to breathing is placing your ear onto the water and roll your head to the side like you are breathing into your armpit. I am going to demonstrate breathing every 2 arms. Like this.
An important part about breathing is to exhale when your head is in the water. This is usually done by blowing bubbles out of your nose. In order to breath you must try to exhale fully under the water so it makes takes a breath to the side quicker.
