We live in a culture that idolizes exhaustion and baptizes burnout as virtue. Hustle, grind, sleeplessness, and constant motion are praised as signs of faithfulness, discipline, and commitment—but more often than not, they are symptoms of pride, control, and distrust in God. We brag about being busy. We wear overwhelm like a badge of honor.
And then we wonder why we are spiritually numb, relationally distant, and emotionally depleted. Rest, solitude, and peace are not weaknesses to be outgrown; they are commands to be obeyed. When we refuse to slow down, we aren’t being productive—we’re being disobedient. The enemy doesn’t always need to pull us into sin; sometimes he just keeps us too busy to listen to God.
Jesus Himself rejected the lie that constant activity equals faithfulness. He withdrew. He rested. He sought solitude—not because He was tired of the mission, but because He was perfectly aligned with the Father. If the Son of God needed stillness, silence, and space to commune with the Father, what makes us think we’re exempt?
