South Africa is ranked 11th on the list of the worst offenders of plastic pollution, with only 16 percent of its plastic waste being recycled. But several people have turned to recycling plastic to make a living. The South African Plastics Industry says it supports more than 7 000 formal jobs. But estimates that close to 60 000 waste pickers receive an income through the recycling supply chain.
