From 1958 to about `62, my cousin Jimmy and I spent most of our summer days snorkeling and spear fishing off of the protective "breakwaters" that provided the harbor with some shelter from rough waves. There can't be too many folks who knew more than us about the underwater terrain, plants and creatures around the outermost 50 yards of the breakers and the lighthouse island.
