Curve ball free kick tutorial
1. run-up
pirlo uses a 15-45 run up.
this is actually normal – you can vary your rup-up, if you like to.
you can run-up on your toes but this is not essential.
Ball contact area
We create a bit more power & more focus on the shot/free kick.
Try to hit the football below the midline.
aim a bit more for the left side (right footed) or right side (left footed)
We try to get a bit of a Topspin – so it’s easier to get over a wall.
Foot contact area
Pirlo uses the inside of his foot.
There are two ways to get a good curved free kick
Use the inside (frontfoot) to create a bit more curve (less power).
Or use the a mix of the inside/instep to create more power (less curve).
Try to practice both ways and decide which is the best one for you.
Follow Through
pirlo actuaaly has a very calm run-up.
He creates the power with his last (large) step & with his body.
Pirlo doesn’t swing his foot too much during/after kicking the ball.
compared to other curve free kick taker like suares or beckham.
But his free kicks have a great curve/bend.
This is because of his follow-through & the contact of the ball/feet.
This requires a lot of practice
