If I could create an interactive opening experience for Batangas: My Sky and Earth, it would be set to the same music I listened to while writing the first chapter: Inay’s Kundiman Song. 🎶 “Ang Maya,” composed by José A. Estella and performed by Conching Rosal, is the song my mother, Crispina, performed during a high school kundiman competition in Batangas, where she competed alongside Ms. Rosal herself.
In this 1-minute and 15-second clip, I share the first chapter of my memoir, featuring cherished vintage photographs of my parents, Cayo and Pining, from the 1930s.
