Fire alarm panel was reading “trouble “ and pointing out the device needed to repair.
Step 1: is to take the fire alarm system offline.
.The process generally involves:
A fire alarm system is usually taken offline by qualified service personnel accessing the main control panel to place it in test mode or disable specific zones for maintenance. For simple residential alarms, this involves physically removing power sources.
.Notifying authorities: The building management must immediately notify the local fire department and the alarm monitoring company that the system will be out of service.
.Implementing a fire watch: For commercial buildings, if the system is offline for more than four hours, a physical fire watch (trained personnel constantly patrolling the premises) is required to provide safety until the system is restored.
.Using the control panel: A certified technician uses a key and/or code to access the main Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP), where they can put the system into "test" mode or selectively silence/deactivate specific zones or devices.
.Disconnecting power sources: To fully take a local alarm offline, the primary power (circuit breaker) is turned off, and any backup batteries are removed.
Step 2 : is to set the new module the same address as the old module.
The "ones & tens" settings, typically on rotary switches (thumbwheels) of addressable fire alarm modules, are used to set a unique numerical address for each device. This address allows the fire alarm control panel (FACP) to identify the exact location and status of the specific module or device.
Each addressable device (e.g., smoke detector, pull station, monitor module) on a Signaling Line Circuit (SLC) must have a unique identifier.
The "ones" dial sets the single-digit value (0-9), and the "tens" dial sets the multiple-of-ten value (0-90).
Combining these values creates the device's unique two-digit address (e.g., setting "tens" to 2 and "ones" to 5 results in address 25).
This system enables the FACP to pinpoint the specific device that has activated (e.g., "Fire alarm at device 25, Zone 3"), which is crucial for quick emergency response.
