ལ། བླ། ལྷ། Do you find the sounds of these Tibetan syllables confusing? Let’s practise.

Описание: Many native speakers of English who do not speak other languages find it challenging to pronounce some of the Tibetan letters and syllables.

For example, to a beginner Tibetan language learner, these three syllables may sound the same.
ལ། བླ། ལྷ།

Example words from these syllables are:

ལ།
ལ་དྭགས། (Ladakh)
ལོ་མ། (leaf, leaves)

བླ།
བླ་མ། (guru, Buddhist spiritual teacher)
བློ་ཁོག། (courage)

ལྷ།
ལྷ་ས། (Lhasa, the capital of Tibet)
ལྷོ་ཕྱོགས། (south)

It’s important to remember that these six syllables sound the same.
ཀླ། གླ། བླ། རླ། སླ།

Here is an example dialogue containing these three different sounds:

ཀ ཁྱོད་གང་ནས་འོང་བ་ཡིན།
A: Where did you come from?
ཁ ང་ལ་དྭགས་ནས་འོང་བ་ཡིན།
B: I came from Ladakh.

ཀ ཁྱོད་གང་དུ་འགྲོ་བ་ཡིན།
A: Where are you going?
ཁ ང་ལྷ་ས་ལ་འགྲོ་བ་ཡིན།
B: I am going to Lhasa.

ཀ ཅི་བྱེད་དུ་འགྲོ།
A: For what purpose?
ཁ བླ་མ་མཇལ་དུ་འགྲོ་ཡི་ཡོད།
B: I am going to have an audience with the lama (guru, the spiritual teacher).

Here is sentence to help you practise these three sounds:
ལྷ་ས་ལ་བླ་མ་ལ་མཇལ་དུ་འགྲོ། (Let’s go to Lhasa for an audience with the lama.)
