This is a dance group of Transylvania Saxons, who are a German ethnic minority group from Romania, from an area called Siebenbürgen - or 7 Castles. It is a very beautiful historical area, with ancient towns, that was pioneered by German settlers starting in the mid 1100's, about 1,000 years ago. The Transylvania Saxons were persecuted under communist rule following WW2, and many emigrated following the collapse of the Soviet Union, when Germany allowed them the right to return.

At So You Think You Can Tanz, a number of German clubs present their dance groups, which have a variety of costumes and styles from central and eastern Europe. In 2015 it was the 47th Year Celebrating Oktoberfest in Kitchener, formerly Berlin, Ontario. This is the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany.

The Alpine Club is the host of So You Think You Can Tanz. It was founded by ethnic German refugees from Gottschee in Slovenia, formerly part of the Austrian Empire.

The settlement around Berlin/Kitchener was founded by German Mennonite pioneers from Pennsylvania in 1803. There was a time when Toronto and the province of Ontario had German-speaking majorities. Kitchener was called Berlin up to WW1, when it was renamed due to prejudices at the time. This was overtly flaunting human rights abuses, since Herbert Kitchener presided over brutal genocidal policies against the Boers during the Anglo-Boer war, out of pure greed in order to seize control over the gold and diamonds of South Africa. It was one of the worst abuses during the British Empire. It is about time that the wrongs of the past are acknowledged and corrected in this case as well, as has been done in others.
