Sextortion is the practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity.

Steven Elliott was found guilty of sexually assaulting a then-15-year-old relative of his wife. In addition to six counts of aggravated rape of a child, Elliott was also convicted of possession of child pornography, posing a child in a state of nudity, posing a child in a sexual act and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

Elliott was hiding his identity online. Ensure your kids don't have their devices in the bedroom or in the bathroom. These types of sexually explicit images will take place in a private room. Keep devices in a common area so you know what your kids are doing online.

Especially during COVID, kids are searching for some form of human connection. Since they can't get this in person, they are communicating more online and, unfortunately, predators are taking advantage of it. Know who your kids are talking to online.
